Louisville’s Housing Crisis Can’t Wait—Here’s How the City Must Step Up.

Louisville is experiencing serious housing instability despite overall growth and economic momentum. Rising rents, a shortage of affordable units, and growing demand are pushing more residents into homelessness or housing insecurity. In response, local housing organizations launched the Safe & Stable: Housing for All campaign, urging city leaders to increase investment in housing support through the upcoming Metro Government budget.

They are requesting:

  • $3 million for homeless services (case management, emergency shelters)

  • $3.1 million for housing stability programs (especially for seniors and children)

  • $25 million for the Affordable Housing Trust Fund, which leverages private investment for affordable housing development

With a shortage of over 36,000 affordable units, the need is urgent. The campaign stresses that targeted, data-driven funding can prevent homelessness, stabilize families, and expand affordable housing. Advocates are calling on Mayor Craig Greenberg and the Metro Council to act boldly to ensure all Louisvillians have access to safe and stable housing.
